There has not been a lot of water recently and yet this just appeared. I'm not sure how a mushroom grows without water - must be a desert mushroom!

The Kevins.
The Kevins are growing up. I know you are out there in the real world worried about how they are doing. They spend most of their time eating, playing and walking around looking for bugs. They are too cute and too fun. I can't believe we waited so long to get them!

Lasagna With Homemade Pasta
Before Mike left on travel again we decided to make some lasagna. We tested out the pasta maker again. The cool thing about it is that the lasagna noodles don't get boiled before you bake them. Just make fresh noodles and layer away. Mike and I have decided this was the best pasta dish we have ever had. Amazing and really I think the needles added so much. How come we don't make pasta from scratch more often??

Putting Up 2010.
I'm still putting up stuff from the garden this year. With that mass of pears, Karen had suggested that I make pear ginger butter. In the end I had apples, pear and ginger. I let it cook all day and canned it. Amazing flavor and perfect. I've been pouring it over vanilla ice cream. Are you done putting up for the year?

First Fire.

We've had the first fire of the season. I love the feeling of a crackling wood fire. Although I must admit, when it is going, I really just want to sleep!

Early Saturday Mornings.

When I take Mike to the airport early in the morning we normally stop at The Range Cafe and get breakfast. Once a year Albuquerque has a large balloon festival. It always happens that as I'm driving Mike down the festival is going on. I'm not sure what is up with his travel schedule, but it is nice for us. We can see all the balloons and no traffic.

Once A Week.
For the past three to four months once a week a group of us get together and run up at the ski hill. It has been Bob, Mike, Katie and I mostly. Mike and Bob mountain bike while Katie and I run. It has been one of the best summers for running on the trails up there and enjoying lunch at the cafe after. This week, this Friday, is the last day the cafe will be open and probably one of the last times we can run up there. My how the changing seasons change our activities. What routine changes in your life when the season change?

Closet Cleanout & Swap Over.
Here is my model pose. I used to practice my "I'm a bitch" look - what do you think? Runway ready? I was tossing on clothing, cleaning out things from last season that haven't been worn and of course getting rid of shoes that are looking for a new home. If you have size 7-8 please check out the shoes that I'm giving away. Would you care to take any of them?

Birthday Weekend.
Well it was Mike's birthday and my nephew's birthday. There was a lot of fun to be had. On Mike's birthday we ate and ate and ate. Oh and ran/biked/and ate. His car was filled with 40 balloons. The White Rock in our town was painted and we had a fantastic time.
For my nephew's birthday we made a cake together. Of course there was a bit of death and destruction as a alligator eats a lego guy.

From The Kitchen.

The pear tree has produced pounds of deliciousness. Anyone know of a good pear jam recipe? I like to dry them, but am looking for more things to do with them.
Green chili pesto used up the rest of the garlic and basil from the garden.
Finally there were a lot of large cucumbers in the garden. I decided to make large pickles with them and they are amazing.

The Kevins.
The Kevins are out in the coop. Their first night along, meaning without me helping them into bed, one of the smallest Silkies (Baby Kevin) sat at the bottom of the ramp screaming her little head off. I could hear her in the front part of the house. I went outside to help lift her up, when all the other chickens stood at the top of the coop screaming back for her. She figured it out and flew up there. It has been a bit nerve racking leaving them out there - but they seem to be doing okay. On Sunday they had a back yard party where they ran around eating weeds and bugs. Watching them growing up is both fascinating and sad.
