Soylent Green

While going to dinner last night we noticed that they do a heck of a lot of recycling here in Moab. Impressive!

Biking in Moab

Well, it was suppose to be an easy 10 miles to the trail head and 10 miles back. Turned out to be much further than that. I think in the end we did around 30 miles. It is around 98 degrees out and I'm feeling pretty freaking tired. At least I get beer and Thai food tonight.

Moab Adventures

We are currently staying at a KOA RV park in Moab. It is a really nice park. Mini golf, pool, ice cream socials ... the whole 9 yards ... BUT, we have had nothing but issues since we showed up. First the cable for power blew while we were in town getting beers at Eddie's. This meant that we showed back up and it was 98.9 degrees inside the RV and I was really worried about the cats. Mike rigged something up for the night - which kept us sort of cool. This morning we were to head out biking - but Mike is rewiring the old cable (trying to cool off the RV for the cats). Mean while there is a big wild fire just to the North of us. They say lightning hit a few nights ago and it is ablaze. The evening colors are amazing and even from here you can make out the flames. Yikes! Hope it stays far away.

As soon as Mike is done wiring, we'll bike Poison Spider (great ride with an arch at the end).

Here are some photos from the road and being in town so far!

Mt. Shavano Hike 8/24/08

This past Sunday a group of us went up to Colorado to hike Mt. Shavano. It was a beautiful day for a hike. The group was a bit large for my liking - and I'm never a big fan of hike and cluster type events. But, the woods were lovely and the wildlife was wonderful. Here are just a couple of photos from the hike.

First Formal Friday

That is right. Casual Friday is in the past.

Sorry Wall Arch

Mike and I hiked around this arch in January. Very sorry it is gone. It was impressive to look at!

W Library

The George W Bush Presidential Library is now in the planning stages. You'll want to be the first at your corporation to make a contribution to this great man's legacy.

The Library will include:

1. The Hurricane Katrina Room, which is still under construction.
2. The Alberto Gonzales Room, where you can't remember anything.
3. The Texas Air National Guard Room, where you don't have to even show up.
4. The Walter Reed Hospital Room, where they don't let you in.
5. The Guantanamo Bay Room, where they don't let you out.
6. The Weapons of Mass Destruction Room (which no one has been able to find).
7. The Iraq War Room. After you complete your first tour, they make you go back for a second, third, fourth, and sometimes fifth tour.
8. The Dick Cheney Room, in the famous undisclosed location, complete with shooting gallery.

Plans also include:

9. The K-Street Project Gift Shop - where you can buy (or just steal) an election.
10. The Airport Men's Room, where you can meet some of your favorite Republican senators.
11. Last, but not least, there will be an entire floor devoted to a 7/8 scale model of the President's ego.

To highlight the President's accomplishments, the museum will have an electron microscope to help you locate them.

Future of Men's Swinsuites - Thanks Krista

Farting Theory of Love (from Love and Other Disasters)

The stages of a relationship can be defined by farting.

Stage 1 is the conspiracy of silence. This is a fantasy period where both parties pretend that they have no bodily waste. This illusion is very quickly shattered by that first shy 'ooh did you fart?' followed by the sheepish admission of truth. This heralds a period of deeper intimacy, a period I like to call the "fart honeymoon", where both parties find each other's gas just the cutest thing in the world. But of course no honeymoon can last forever. And so we reach the critical fork in the fart. Either the fart loses its power to amuse and embarrass, thereby signifying true love or else, it begins to annoy and disgust, thereby symbolizing all that is blocked and rancid in the formly beloved.

The Square Root of Three - From Harold & Kumar

I’m sure that I will always be
A lonely number like root three

The three is all that’s good and right,
Why must my three keep out of sight
Beneath the vicious square root sign,
I wish instead I were a nine

For nine could thwart this evil trick,
with just some quick arithmetic

I know I’ll never see the sun, as 1.7321
Such is my reality, a sad irrationality

When hark! What is this I see,
Another square root of a three

As quietly co-waltzing by,
Together now we multiply
To form a number we prefer,
Rejoicing as an integer

We break free from our mortal bonds
With the wave of magic wands

Our square root signs become unglued
Your love for me has been renewed

Forget

I just went out for a jog on the trails here at work. Sometimes I forget how great it feels to just toss on a pair of shorts, shoes and hit the trails. Being outdoors - running through the trees, falling and skinning your knee. Great fun!

Morning Rain

There is nothing on the planet that makes me want to stay in bed - awake - but under the covers with a smile on my face like rain. This morning I woke up to the splash of drops coming off the roof. I could lay there and listen all morning.

Sharks

As most of you know I hate sharks. They scare the crap out of me. Just read this little fact today.

"Falling coconuts kill 150 people worldwide each year, 15 times the number of fatalities attributable to sharks," said George Burgess, Director of the University of Florida's International Shark Attack File and a noted shark researcher."

Is it just because they work for University of Florida that they say this???

Religious Question

Yesterday when leaving work I noticed a car with a rosary hanging off the rear view mirror. I've seen this a lot around here. Question. Why? Is it there in case something bad happens so you have it handy to pray? Is it there to show people you are catholic? Is it there just for something to swing and block your view. Really ... I don't understand!

Night Wonders

Mike left this morning on a 6am flight. Which meant getting up at 2am - leaving the house by 2:30 and driving down to ABQ. The drive down wasn't too bad. But, coming back I realize that driving when it is dark out and you are even slightly tired is just crazy. Nothing strange nor bad happened. But, I could see how something easily could. The road seems to blend together. The lights from cars bother your eyes. And there isn't enough music or coffee to keep you from day dreaming about your pillow.

2am isn't morning I've decided. 2am is night time!

Events

On Saturday night we went to a Rage The Cage event. For those that aren't versed in Cage fighting it is an Albuquerque event with 36 fights on the ticket. It is boxing, martial arts, and sort of hand to hand combat type fighting. We were in the 2nd row on the floor for the cage ... which was crazy. I can't actually say I've ever seen people fighting like that up close. Here are two photos from the event. Courtney was having a good time and Julie shaved Dave's hair into a mow-hock.

In other news, Mike and I are have been approved to adopt a child or children. On Saturday we went to an adoption event which was a bit strange. Details only for people who are really interested. The whole process of getting licensed took forever. And we are pretty sure that the actual process of deciding on a child or age or anything will take just as long. I'll post once there is more news.

Phone Photo

I haven't plugged in my iphone in a while and found that there was a photo from a previous climbing trip on there. Maybe 2 weeks ago. In Pajarito Acres. A very very hot climb. But, well worth the time! Top roping only ... so not too hard.
