Great Use of Bananas.

With a couple of bananas left - way to ripe to eat - and a few loafs of banana bread already in the freezer I decided to go muffin style. This recipe rocks. These are by far some of the best muffins I've ever eaten!

Recipe:
1 1/2 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 ripe bananas
3/4 cup white sugar
1 egg
1/3 cup butter, melted
1/3 cup packed brown sugar

Topping:
2 tablespoons flour
1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon butter

1. Mix the ingredients in recipe together.
2. Put mixture into lined muffin tins that are greased.
3. Mix topping and put a tablespoon on top of each muffin.
3. Heat oven to 375 degrees and bake for 18-20 minutes

Garden Pickles.

I think I have finally found it. A good - no cook pickle recipe. The dill, cucumbers and garlic are from the garden. I think I might try this recipe on zucchini next!

Recipe:
1 pound of medium cucumbers
3 cloves of garlic
1/2 teaspoon black peppercorns
1 teaspoon fresh dill weed
1 whole dried bay leaf
2/3 cup brown sugar
6 1/2 tablespoons white distilled vinegar
6 1/2 tablespoons white-wine vinegar
3/4 cup of water

1. Cut the cucumbers into spears and put them into a jar. Add garlic, peppercorns, mustard seed, dill weed and bay leaf.

2. Stir together sugar - water and pour into jars.

Pickles are ready in 24 hours. Crispy fantasticness!

The Kevins.

Today we let the peeps hang out out back for a bit (in their little area). They got a few bugs and were nibbling on grass. Adorable. They are changing by the day. I'm excited to see them grow and sad to see the baby feathers leaving.

Chicken Update.

I'm having issues getting the images to line up correctly. But, I know people are interested in how the baby peeps are doing and what in the world they will look like when they grow up. The black peeps are Dominiques and will look like this lovely lady when they grow up. Black and white and classic chicken like. The white ones are Silkies and will look like this lady. Covered from head to toe in feathers.

So far they have grown over a inch in 4 days. They are eating a ton of food, not pasting over and looking for bugs. I keep telling them they are too little for bugs - but they don't seem to care.

Date Night.

Tonight was date night. What does that mean - well we went to the feed store to get food for the Kevin's and ate out and went to Lowes. Yes yes - sexy evening I know. But, on the way down was a fantastic rainbow.

Presto Pesto

One of the things I've been trying to work on this summer is keeping up with the garden. It isn't easy and does take some effort - plus the hot days don't help much. I went out for another round up. Found herbs that need drying, strawberries, thai hot peppers, bell peppers, and rhubarb. With the basil and garlic that I picked a while ago (which has dried), I decided to make pesto. I froze half and am saving half for when Mike gets home. Can someone say grilled pizza??

I walk out to the car and see some very strange early morning moth behavior. Hmmm. What are you guys doing?

Weekend Project.

Over the weekend I got my sewing machine working and finally got into production some "green" zippy bags. They are perfect for snacks. Machine washable and keep items fresh and crisp. My little shoppe is having a back-to-school sale on them (1/2 price) until September. After that they go to full price again. More and more fabric options will be posted. So, keep an eye open.

Blog Lovin'

So most of you know I have two blogs. My knitting blog won a "I love this blog" award. This blog - not so much. But, I think it is only fair that I get to give 5 more I love your blog awards!

Feel free to give the blog award to your favorite 5. Post the award on your blog if you like!

1. Rosemary In Time - She is always so busy and keeps posting great photos and summer inspiration!
2. Collecting The Moments - Wow. Talk about an all in one person. Everything you could ever want she gets done in less time than it takes me to tie my shoes.
3. Patches' Rules The Internet - because Patches has a way with words and makes me laugh.
4. Julie-K - She is thrifty, amazing and reuses so much! Inspiring.
5. Lynne Power - She hits things on the head. I read her posts and smile, cringe, know exactly what she is saying. A way with words!

Thanks for blogging everyone. I love the world of blogs and blog-buddies!

Back Yard Yummies.

The garden is in full production. Garlic, onions, peppers, lettuce, strawberries, herbs .... I could do on and on. I'm just wondering how I'm going to eat all of this without Mike around.

Wow. Long Week.

This past work wee has been crazy. Crazy busy, packed full or work and house stuff. We are still dealing with insurance and the general contractor - which is taking up a lot of our time (well my time currently). When the week gets hard I always want to eat grilled cheese sandwiches, tomato soup and sit in my pjs for hour. Not productive. But, there you have it.
