Elk

This morning I was leaving the house early, 6:15 AM, and as I left the drive way I saw the strangest thing ... well I've probably ever seen. There was the biggest elk, with one of those MEGA racks, running full steam down Grand Canyon.

After reading the Stephen King book, Dreamcatcher, mass migration of animals always makes me feel a bit uncomfortable. Is there an alien virus spreading across Los Alamos? Or maybe this bull just lost his ladies and was on the hunt for some more.

Ghost?

I noticed that there was a strange splotch on the window. It looked like when a dogs nose rubs up against the window. I kept looking at it until I figured out what it was. Not a ghost. Not a dog nose. It appears as if a wet bird flew into the window. Up close you can actually make out feather shapes, the wings, and the beak. I hope the bird made it out okay.

Running In The Snow

Large hearty flakes of snow were coming down and all I could think to do was run in it. I love the feeling of being slightly cold and pushing it. And the best. The absolute best is fat snow flakes falling onto your eye lashes while running. Running home quickly, on my out and back run, I got into the hot tub. Talk about a good Saturday.

"Classic" Rock?

I'm a fan of all types of music. I can say that there is not a whole lot that I don't like. But there is something I just don't get. I was listening to the classic rock station yesterday while driving to yoga. Classic rock has been 60's and 70's rock. Some AC/DC, Rolling Stones, CCR, and such. It seems that "classic" now includes the 80's and some 90's. They were playing Def Leopard on the classic rock station.

Has the term classic migrated? Is this going to keep happening until I'm old and near death? What about the "oldies" station? Are they going to stop playing Elvis and start playing Coldplay? How am I suppose to know which station is playing what if they keep migrating the definition?

Romanesco

The delivery of our weekly veggies showed up with the most interesting vegetable inside. The photos show you this alien beast. It is called romanesco broccoli. I've never heard of it or eaten it before. I can't wait to get my teeth into it.

Bathroom Update

The long and short of the bathroom remodel is more long than short. We pulled out everything. Found that the toilet was a mess. Shall we say an absolute mess. The previous owners wanted the back of the toilet to be flush with the wall - so they just mounted the toilet off set(closer to the wall). This means that half of the toilet bottom is over the tile and slab of the house. Use your imagination. Then the plumber found (while digging up our foundation) that the flange was too high on the toilet ... so they pushed really hard on the pipe. This changed the angle of the flow and thus backed up. Finally, while pushing hard they broke the pipe slightly and water was dripping out. Tree roots found the water and started to fill up the pipe.

The photos are of the bathroom empty and the new pipe in the floor. The plumber is coming back on Friday and is going to fill it with cement. I can't wait to have the floor back together.

Afro with attitude

Over the holiday break I saw an ad for something super sweet. Afro Samurai. Samuel L. Jackson is the voice for the main character. It starts tomorrow. I can't wait to see it!
