Weekend News

A four day weekend is always welcome. Although I did go into work on Friday ... it was for a short period of time. We got a bit done on the bathroom - not enough to really talk about. I finished a knitting project, planted my garden, dug up a stump, cleaned the den, fertilized and trimmed the indoor plants, and relaxed. All in all ... a very nice weekend.

We also watched Pan's Labyrinth. Not to give anything away - but I thought it ended happily, Mike on the other hand thought it was very very sad. I guess it all stands on how you approach fairy tales .... and I for one ... LOVE THEM!

Jemez 1/2 Marathon

Kate, Dana and I finished the Jemez 1/2 marathon on Saturday. Turns out that first, the course was longer than 13 miles. And ... we made a wrong turn and added a good 35 minutes on to the run. It was a lovely run though. We started at 7 am and it was cool out. We never got too hot, the aid stations were great, and the other runners were lovely as well. I think we will probably do it again next year - but we may actually pay more attention to the directions :).

I Love It

This was sent to me.
Here's a truly heartwarming story about the bond formed between a little 5-year-old girl and some construction workers that makes you believe that we CAN make a difference when we give a child the gift of our time.

A young family moved into a house next door to a vacant lot. One day a construction crew turned up to start building a house on the empty lot. The young family's 5-year-old daughter naturally took an interest in all the activity going on next door and spent much of each day observing the workers. Eventually the construction crew, all of them gems-in-the-rough, more or less adopted her as a kind of project mascot. They chatted with her, let her sit with them while they had coffee and lunch breaks, and gave her little jobs to do here and there to make her feel important.

At the end of the first week they even presented her with a pay envelope containing a couple of dollars. The little girl took this home to her mother who said all the appropriate words of admiration and suggested that they take the two dollar "pay" she had received to the bank the next day to start a savings account.

When they got to the bank, the teller was equally impressed and asked the little girl how she had come by her very own pay check at such a young age. The little girl proudly replied, "I worked last week with the crew building the house next door to us.

"My goodness gracious," said the teller, "and will you be working on the house again this week, too?"

The little girl replied, "I will if those assholes at Home Depot ever deliver the fucking sheet rock..."

Definition of Geek?

Today while walking back to the office with a hot cup of coffee I saw what I would swear to be the definition of a geek. Please do correct me if I'm wrong.

A 40 year old man walking slowly with his backpack on. This backpack isn't just a regular backpack, but a backpack that is a three dimension stuffed Yoda. I'm not sure if this was a fashion statement or his method for getting chick, but either way I believe it equals geek.

Sprinkler

We returned from our trip to find the sprinkler on the garden going. It is suppose to water for 15 minutes every morning .... We got home at 4pm. When I asked Karin - turns out it was watering nonstop while we were gone. I can't wait to get our next utility bill .... but at least the radishes seem to like it!

Bamma Trip

Photos from our Alabama trip. The art work was amazing. Friday night there was a storm like nothing I've been in ..... And of course ... a photo of Mike going fast.

We had a great time. The drive wasn't very bad and the cats LOVED the motor home. What can I say ... they are little traveling machines!

You Suck - Moore Rocks

I just finished You Suck ... by my favorite author, Christopher Moore. On page 190 one of the best quotes from any of his books.

" With the exception of the odd serial killer, and car salesmen who think of them as the perfect unit for measuring trunk space, nobody likes a dead whore. ("Yeah, you can get five-maybe six dead hookers in this baby.")"

Moore is my favorite!
