From The Kitchen.
The pear tree has produced pounds of deliciousness. Anyone know of a good pear jam recipe? I like to dry them, but am looking for more things to do with them.
Green chili pesto used up the rest of the garlic and basil from the garden.
Finally there were a lot of large cucumbers in the garden. I decided to make large pickles with them and they are amazing.

The Kevins.
The Kevins are out in the coop. Their first night along, meaning without me helping them into bed, one of the smallest Silkies (Baby Kevin) sat at the bottom of the ramp screaming her little head off. I could hear her in the front part of the house. I went outside to help lift her up, when all the other chickens stood at the top of the coop screaming back for her. She figured it out and flew up there. It has been a bit nerve racking leaving them out there - but they seem to be doing okay. On Sunday they had a back yard party where they ran around eating weeds and bugs. Watching them growing up is both fascinating and sad.

Happy Fall!
Fall is officially here and the pumpkins are officially out of the patch. You saw the massive one - well there are a lot of them. Not just that one. I love my pumpkin patch. Screams fall in every way!

Friday Night Lights.
Not football related. The peeps are officially grown up. They started flying out of the cardboard enclosure in the garage, so we moved them outside tonight. I'm so nervous something will happen to them.
I didn't get to posting this last night. Which is probably okay. We put in a large 250 watt bulb for the girls and they all snuggled up next to it last night. It got down to 64 degrees in their coop - but they seemed to handle it just fine. This morning I gave them a treat and they were really really happy to see me.

Individule Peach Crisp Recipe
I love crisps. I think they are delicious and a great way to use summer fruit. When my honey is out of town I don't want to make a big pan of it though. So, I've invented individule peach crisps. You can put any fruit you want into this recipe.
The Game Plan:
1-2 peaches (per bowl)
Preheat oven to 425 degrees
You can peel or not peel the peaches (I like a mix)
2 tablespoons flour (per bowl)
1 tablespoon oats (per bowl)
1 tablespoon brown sugar (per bowl)
1 teaspoon nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger
melt 1 tablespoon butter and mix in another tablespoon brown sugar and 1 tablespoon rolled oats. Top each container with the melted butter mixture.
Bake for 11 minutes and enjoy. DELICIOUS!

Sleeping Kevins.
I know they might look strange. But, when they sleep they look really bizarre. It is hard to snap photos of them because each time I go outside to see them they jump up. They are growing slowly - but adorable!

Fall.
Fall is in the air. The mornings are cool and the pumpkin patch is starting to die back. I just cut a few of them and now have them around the house. I can't wait for Halloween!

When You Have No Furniture.
What We Eat.
Well the garden is at it again. Peaches out the wazoo ... winter squash and I used some of the peaches to make peach butter (which has a lot less sugar than jams or preserves).
A good blogger buddy of mine stopped eating or drinking anything with high fructose corn syrup. I decided to give it a go. It is crazy how many common items have high fructose corn syrup in it. I've made it since Friday without having any and am not really noticing it - well other than wanting something delicious and sweet every once and a while. Hence the ginger butter. YUMMY!

The Kevins.
Mike built a little perch for the Kevins. They are practicing sitting on it - which is adorable. Turns out the Dominques (the black ones) are tall enough and have strong enough wings that they can flap to the top of the cardboard if I'm not watching them. Naughty little girls.

Monster Carrots.
Fall might be coming ... but the garden is still pumping. The white and orange carrots are ready and perfect for some delicious salads. I might even pickle some :)

Garden ...
Fall is in the air and the garden is still doing well. Potatoes have finally come up and are so delicious it isn't even funny. Mike actually made a statement the other night while we were picking veggies, "I never knew growing your own food could be so freaking fun." Made me smile.
