The Kevins - Holiday Letter

Dear Santa,
We have strung our lights, we are ready for our gifts, and we promise we have been good this year.

Sincerely,
The Kevins (who are in the holiday spirit)

The Kevins - Go To Oz.

Did any of you ever watch the HBO show Oz? It was about prison (a bit violent and really made me never want to see the inside of a jail). Well that is what we are now calling this inclosure. See, Kevin's were eating my garden, digging up the grass and basically running the whole back yarn into the ground.

The fence was a serious labor of love. It took Mike two full weekends and was not fun to put up. The girls seem to be adjusting to it well though and our hope is that over time they forget about the rest of the yard.

What Kevin Says.

Our lovely snacking Kevin's hit another mile marker this past weekend. On Sunday they each laid one egg (which they are suppose to but it seems like some days they take breaks).

Six eggs in one nest (they hate the other nest) and the girls got a new special treat; GRAPES. I'm sure we spoil our chickens ... but aren't they just so cute?

The Kevins.

My how the little girls have grown. This weekend I've let them roam outside without any real supervision. They seem to be okay. Doing well and not flying into the neighbors yards.

The Kevins.

The Kevins are out in the coop. Their first night along, meaning without me helping them into bed, one of the smallest Silkies (Baby Kevin) sat at the bottom of the ramp screaming her little head off. I could hear her in the front part of the house. I went outside to help lift her up, when all the other chickens stood at the top of the coop screaming back for her. She figured it out and flew up there. It has been a bit nerve racking leaving them out there - but they seem to be doing okay. On Sunday they had a back yard party where they ran around eating weeds and bugs. Watching them growing up is both fascinating and sad.

Sleeping Kevins.

I know they might look strange. But, when they sleep they look really bizarre. It is hard to snap photos of them because each time I go outside to see them they jump up. They are growing slowly - but adorable!

The Kevins.

Mike built a little perch for the Kevins. They are practicing sitting on it - which is adorable. Turns out the Dominques (the black ones) are tall enough and have strong enough wings that they can flap to the top of the cardboard if I'm not watching them. Naughty little girls.
