Weeks Update!

It has been a while since I've sat down to blog.  There have been a lot of adventures around here.  The big news is that my little sister is married.  She is married to a lovely man and we had an amazing time in Montana.  Turns out it has been years since I've seen my aunts, uncles and cousins.  It was also a blast for Zooey to see everyone.

Out to breakfast and I see this funny graffiti.  This place also has peacocks everywhere!

This is a film that was cleaned up and posted.  A lot of the choppy bits were taken out.  Amazing to see London in 1927 and in color!

Brownies

When is the last time you tried to make the perfect brownie? Box brownies just don't cut it. I tried these over the weekend. The recipe came out of Cooks Illustrated. They took some series time - since the chocolate is cooked in a double boiler. But in the end they are pretty good. A bit sticky. But good.

In other news Zooey is getting into outside time!

In our house - the conversation over digital or real paper happens all the time.  This commercial sums up my thoughts exactly!

M is for Mandingo

I like the word mandingo.  Say it fast 10 times.  Until now I didn't know what it meant or where it came from.  Mandingo was a movie from 1975 about slavery.  Who knew!

L is for Los Alamos

For those of you that don't know - I live in Los Alamos.  Los Alamos has a rich history of science and discovery.  It is also an amazingly pretty place to live.

K is for Kuelap

Kuelap is an ancient ruined city near Peru (which someday I'd love to go see).  I feel like South America has a lot to offer in the way of ancient ruins.  In the past few years they have found areas filled with mummies and bones.  The fact that this massive structure has been standing for so long and things like bodies remain in place just blows my mind.

I is for Imagination

What would we do without our imagination.  As a kid I had a tree that talked to me.  I planned my escape to space - where I charted the stars and had lots of friends.  Imagination is what makes each of us different.  Imagination is what can drive us to be creative.

What have you done with your imagination lately?

H is for Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle

I first encountered the Heisenberg uncertainty principle when I was in high school physics.  I found the concept of something changing form based on if I was looking at it or not very interesting.   There are a number of experiments that can be done to test this theory and most of them left me scratching my head.  Wondering how do I apply this in the real world.  Of course there are a handful of questions that can be used in quantum mechanics.  But, in the real world - the world that you know I spend our time  .... what does this mean for us?

We cause things in this world to change just by looking at them, tracking them, thinking about them.  Keep this in mind the next time you watch the kettle (waiting for the hot water to boil).

G is for Gates!

Gates are what you open to get into a secluded location.  But, the Gates that I'm talking about is Gates McFadden. She has always been one of my favorite Star Trek characters.  A head strong doctor who is raising a kid by her self.  Plus - she is a fantastic actress.

F is for Frank

Frank is my brother's name.  I had no idea that is was based on a type of ax that was used.  I've always liked the name Frank since it is a family name (my brother being Frank III).  Frank also makes me think of hot dogs, Frank Lloyd Write and being very clear in what you are saying.

I'll be frank with you, this post isn't as exciting as some of the previous posts!

And of course - who can forget Franky Goes to Hollywood??

E is for Equilateral Triangle

I love triangles - and none more than the equilateral triangle.   There is something about its symmetry that just puts me at ease.  Do you have a favorite shape?

D is for Dyson Sphere

D is for Dyson Sphere.  Let your inner nerd out and just imagine it!  The concept was created by Freeman Dyson and is so cool I wish we could make one.  Basically you would build a sphere around a sun with planets.  The sphere would help contain the energy from the sun.  You would have limitless energy.  Of course if you look at the image above you can see that the size of the sphere would be incredible.  Larger than anything we could currently make.  But, a girl can dream can't she?

C is for Caput!

I've always loved the word caput.  I had no idea what the back ground of the word was until I looked it up.  Turns out that I think I must have picked it up for someone who was using it in the Yiddish sense.  Regardless ... when something dies or gives up the ghost ... I often announce that it is caput!

Watch Wednesday

This was sent to me by a friend.  If you watch one girl it isn't as cool as watching it as the whole.

B is for Balderdash

The premise, you would start beginning April First with a topic themed on something with the letter A, then on April second another topic with the letter B as the theme, and so on until you finish on April thirtieth with the theme based on the letter Z.

Most of the time if you subtract Sundays from April, you then have 26 days--one day for each letter of the alphabet. When April 1st lands on a Sunday you begin on that day which will be the only Sunday you would post during that month's challenge.

It doesn't even have to be a word--it can be a proper noun, the letter used as a symbol, or the letter itself. The theme of the day is the letter scheduled for that day.

B is for Balderdash. Balderdash is actually a board game - so not too interesting.  But, I heard a talk once about what people in North Korea think American's sound like.  Words like balderdash were used a lot.  As if we use it all the time.  I might have to use it today just to see if anyone at work notices.

BALDERDASH!

April A-Z Challange

A-Z Challenge.

A is for Andromeda Galaxy.  2.5 million light years from Earth it has always held a spot in my heart.  When I was a kid I dreamed of people from other galaxies - and Andromeda would be the perfect place to be from.
